Back PAINS!!
It sure is awful to have back pains during pregnancy and after pregnancy. It can be that dull ache on your cervical, thoracic or lumbar vertebrae (your upper, mid and lower spine) muscles, or your sacroiliac joints that hurts, in other words butt pain!
From the growing fetus stretching out in the belly to breastfeeding the baby every 2-4hrs...we were surely not told about the aftermath of the poor posture. But it all links with the weakened muscles, imbalanced muscles that comes with the poor posture.
No doubt I experienced them and still am closely in touch with them. I use the foam roller and massage ball to roll out that tightness of the lower back muscles and gluteus muscles. It relieves the ache and definitely feels lighter. Only to have it revisiting me every now and then.
I'm just like any other moms who chases after the toddlers, caring to their needs and unknowingly slouches into an improper posture. So you are definitely not alone. But we know that we have to rectify this problem.. right?
Here is a perfect stretch that I would really encourage all moms to take a second to try it. I call it the 'towel stretch'.
We use a small towel, straighten it out and pull it so that it forms a straight horizontal line in front of you. And as you bring both arms above your head, keep tugging on the towel so that it doesn't slack. Maintain a neutral spine alignment (means no arching of the back & no shrugging of the shoulders).
This movement enables one to stretch the pectoralis muscles (chest) and activates the shoulder joint muscles. Hold it on for 5-8s and slowly lower the towel to chest level and repeat 3-5times.
Give it a go for a week and share with me how do you feel about it?
Cheers!
